Yoga for Special Needs
In addition to the personal growth I experienced by being part of this educational community, the evolution I saw amongst the Schmoga participants was incalculable. Students who were rarely leaders in their classroom were given the opportunity to shine because the group therapeutically used occupation, exercises, and activities to build upon their strengths. The pride was evident in their facial expressions and the way they carried themselves following group. I loved hearing shouts of “Watch what I can do!” and “Look! I’ve been practicing!” My favorite expression was from a first grade girl who stood up straight after completing a particular challenging pose and proclaimed, “I’m a really talented girl.” It was sincere and it was marvelous.
