Shame + Anxiety

Hello!
Have you ever been anxious, done something that you considered stupid then beat yourself up about it? Perhaps saying things like, “Wow, that was dumb” or “What an idiot!” maybe… “What’s wrong with me?!”

I’ve done this a lot to myself and if I knew when I was feeling overwhelmed that my brain literally was not working correctly (In short, the prefrontal cortex is not online because the amygdala is firing) I would have been A LOT kinder to myself.

Flipping the script from “what is wrong with me?!” to “Oh! I’m overwhelmed and my brain isn’t working correctly.” can help us be a lot kinder to ourselves and in turn to others.

This is something I am working with, especially when I feel a panic attack coming on. The last thing we need to feel is shame on top of any other negative feelings going on in our bodies and minds!

The work we are doing is so exciting because we can give youth tools to practice which help to self-soothe and find self-compassion early on!

We are excited about the upcoming school year and have some amazing partnerships on the horizon! If you are interested in a partnership or have a children’s yoga training and would like to teach with us, we would love to hear from you!

We have a training coming up in October in Wheat Ridge and would love to see you there!

Please feel free to reply to this e-mail and we will be happy to connect <3

With deep gratitude,
Julie (in my shame + compassion 😉 )
