“DON’T GET THE YOGA OUT OF ME!!”

“When I get home from yoga, my brother gets all hyper and I say, “DON’T GET THE YOGA OUT OF ME!!”  -Caroline, 7

At Blessed Sacarement School in Denver, I had the opportunity to bring kids yoga into their afterschool enrichment program. I LOVED this class! It was a group of twelve girls who all seemed to be in the same brownie group. They had a ton of energy and were always SO excited for yoga- especially the music and movement part of class! One time after having them for seven weeks I had them line up. While they were waiting for their yoga stamps I casually asked the kids, “why do you like yoga?” like I tend to do- getting authentic answers rather than forced responses. One of my students stated. “When I get home from yoga, my brother gets all hyper and I say, “DON’T GET THE YOGA OUT OF ME!!”

I thought that this was such a great explanation of how we feel after yoga that many adults can’t articulate. We leave class with this feeling of pure relaxation where our worries are gone and we suddenly feel calm. Caroline hit the nail on the head! When you have this feeling, you want to make it last, surrounding yourself with people and experiences that make you feel good!

This quote is by far the best child’s yoga quote that I have yet to hear. It was raw, authentic and accurate. I am very grateful I get to teach kids how to empower themselves to feel good!
